About Us

  1. Introduction :

In education, learning is defined as the apparent modification of a person’s behaviour through his activities and experiences, so that his knowledge, skills and attitudes, including modes of adjustment, towards his environment are changed, more or less permanently. Learning resource is a means of support to bring about the desired modification in persons behaviour.

Recently under the "World Bank Assisted Project" sophisticated equipment like television, over head projector, slide projector, closed circuit television have been supplied to the polytechnic institutions of Madhya Pradesh, for strengthening teaching process. However, considerable preparatory work will be needed for realizing their potential for teaching and learning. Software to deliver relevant knowledge will have to be developed. Besides, teachers using the equipment must have clear-cut understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the media. They should also have insight into nature of communication process.

To avoid lag in availability of software Learning Resource Development Centre (LRDC) has been established at Govt. Kalaniketan Polytechnic College, Jabalpur. The centre has infrastructure and equipment for designing and developing learning resources. With cooperative effort of teachers in polytechnics, the centre will generate learning resources and disseminate them to different institutes.

  1. Creation of LRDC

LRDC was established in the year 1992 in the premises of Govt. Kalaniketan Polytechnic College, Jabalpur. The centre occupies 720m2 floor area in the first floor of the polytechnic building. Apart from its ideal location the centre has conductive social, economic and technological environment. There are large number industries and engineering establishments in the vicinity of Jabalpur town. The centre can interact with these industries for developing learning resources, specially the educational video programs. Space provision for the centre is inadequate.

  1. Earlier Efforts

Improving efficiency and effectiveness of teaching and learning process in polytechnics has been a major concern of planners of technician education in Madhya Pradesh. Earlier Quality Improvement Centres (QIC) was established in polytechnics at Jabalpur and Indore for the developing learning resources and disseminating them to other polytechnics of Madhya Pradesh. Due lack of coordination between the centres and polytechnics in the state expected results couldn't be achieved. Holding this in view, Learning Resource Users Centres (LRUCs) have been established in polytechnics to promote use of learning resources developed by LRDC and received from other sources. It now seems certain that the LRDC and network of LRUCs established will provide desired conceptual and physical framework to achieve the objectives.

  1. Functions of LRDC :

Main functions of the LRDC can be considered as

  • Needs assessment, acquisition of physical and human resources and staff development
  • Design and development of learning resources to be used by polytechnics.
  • Mass production of LRs and their marketing.
  • Maintaining relationship with other agencies for better operation of LRDC.

  1. Staff structure of LRDC

LRDC needs staff structure for designing, developing, printing and dissemination of LRs. Following activities have been identified necessary for discharging above commitments.

  • Organizing workshops for designing and developing LRs
  • Mastering of LRs.
  • Printing of LRs
  • Developing educational video programs Editing and dubbing programs scripted and directed by teachers.
  • Printing handouts, laboratory manuals etc.
  • Developing projector slides.
  • Developing models, cutouts, charts etc.
  • Disseminating/marketing of LRs.
  • Maintenance of equipment.
  • Office correspondence.

Vocational Training Programs for Community

Breaking the trend of fixed pattern training for all employees, Kalaniketan Polytechnic College, Jabalpur has introduced a design based training system, where the training requirements for the staff are first spelled out and then a training program consisting of a core (for All) and Specialized (As per Department need) is provided. The training includes knowledge of other related subjects, which are not a part of Computer application but are essential in overall development of the organization e.g. Maintenance of Accounts book, office-working system, knowledge of Management Information System, Documentation etc. . Kalaniketan Polytechnic College, Jabalpur also encourages certificate course conducted for overall development and expertise of the employee. In case of Educational Institutions certificate course can be designed and conducted in the premises of the Institute on availability of batch & recourses. The course can be independent or an additional enhancement in the ongoing course of the institute. The centre offer following short term courses
